"Send In the Clowns"

“What’s up goofy?”

Yearbook Signature

“You are one of the craziest girls I have ever met.”

“I am glad she is leaving the dance team because she is loud and obnoxious and gets on my nerves.”

Class clown , PHS, Class of 1993

1993

For so many years, I have despised being identified as goofy, silly, crazy, the party girl or heaven forbid, loud.

When I first started my career, I always thought no one will ever take me seriously if I was seen as the silly one.

It was so important for me to be seen as an expert. I needed to be smart, sharp, focused.

There was no room for joking once my career began in 1997.

“Send In the Clowns”

The funny thing is and why “Send in the Clowns” pops up in my mind, is because in the 1955 film, Smiles of a Summer Night, the character Desiree reflects on the ironies and disappointments of her life. (Also, I did a dance to this song way, way back so it has a special place in my heart.)

The irony for me is that no matter how hard I have tried to push down the goofy, crazy or silly girl, she always pops up. Always.

As an adult, I have taken so many assessments to get to the heart of who I am, what my main characteristics are and how to use them as a strength.

Myers- Briggs, The Enneagram, and assessments about what archetypes show up have all been a part of my personal and professional development.

Test after test shows that, drum roll please, the jester shows up. The extrovert shows up and is off the charts. Loving groups of people show up. Being joyous when I am at my best shows up. It turns out, being the goofy-ass, class clown loud girl is who I am. It is just what makes me, well, ME!

I am happy to report that in 2021, I have finally decided to embrace this chick instead of pushing her ass over or rolling my eyes at her whenever she shows up.

When I work with my clients, it turns out I can drop knowledge, laugh and have fun. That’s who you are gonna get when you work with me. Fun, kind-hearted, and non-judgemental old Steph-dawg.

Let’s sweat together AND let's laugh together.

So here is to being your most authentic self in 2021. Here is to being ourselves and allowing this to help up us achieve our dreams no matter how outlandish they seem at the moment. It’s our #timetofly.

Be Strong. Be Mindful. Be Feisty.
